    Eating Disorders

For both anorexic and bulimic kids, weight loss is an obsession. Anorexics won't eat, will appear significantly underweight (15 per cent below their recommended body mass index) yet believe they are fat. Read more →

you need to start eating normally 3 meals and 3 snacks a day, you should go to see you GP about the headaches and dizziness and about the fact you feel you need to lose weight because if your over weight then you dont, but if you are over weight then not eating is not the way to go about losing weight. eating better and getting more exercise will help. i suffer with bulimia and i have for 3 years now before that i was anorexic, it ruined my life, i had no energy and i could not control my emotions because i relied on my eating disorder to do it for me and i was miserable. i became depressed and suicidal, please do not let that thought in your head telling you to lose weight gain control because it does not want to help you, it will only harm you if you listen and stop eating normally, its not something you can control, trust me, it will gain control of you and if you dont want to live a messed up life of fear of food, then dont let it take control, everytime you dont eat, it gains control. love yourself and tell yourself something you like/love about yourself everyday or everytime you think something bad about yourself. but what ever you do DO NOT LET SOME THING AS STUPID AND NOT IMPORTANT AS WHAT YOU WEIGHT TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE your beautiful just the way you are.

go to the doctor and tell him/ her and they refer you to a clinic to have a meeting with a specialist. Please do it, it really helped me with my bumlimia

After reading the comments above I want to hasten to add that just because she is skinny and does not seem to eat much, this should not immediately point you in the direction of anorexia/bulimia. Some people just honestly havee a small appetite and are naturally skinny. This is not to say that you shouldn'tt worry, because that is what mums do! But don't search for a problem where there may not necessarily be one. The fact that she is full of energy also is a point against an eating disorder. When your body isn't getting enough nutrients it has to work harder to complete all the processes, added to this the exercise that people with eating disorders tend to do leads to someone being very lethargic and tired. If you are still worried you should have a chat with your GP and just check everything out. But definitely don't watch her like a hawk! 1) it is very off putting and may stress your daughter out and 2) IF there is a problem it will only serve to make it worse

My best friend has lost 1 and 1/2 stone since Chistmas and never eats, even when she gets home. She is 5ft5 and only ways 7 stone. Me and my other best friend keep telling her that she needs to eat, and we have warned her all about the risks of what she is doing to herself. Recently she has admitted to us that she is doing it because she thinks shes fat, but she wont believe us when we tell her that her spine, ribs and hip bone all stick out, like in those pictures of the anorexic people on the internet and in books. We have been so worried for her and recently she started drinking juice cartons at lunch, but refuses to eat! We have printed things off the internet and threatened to tell her mum or a teacher, to put her off, but she just wont eat! How can I convince her that she damaging her body, and make her stop starving herself?? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I have had an obsession about my weight for a long period of time, this has lead to severe depression. I have starved myself for long periods of time leading to having to be force-fed. I have binged and made myself sick after. My diet is very strict and I am obsessed about how many calories, carbohydrates etc that go into my system. My depression very often has spirraled out of control and the sad thing is the media, social groups and the current generation make people think that if you aren't think you aren't attractive. The rate of anorexia has risen in the case of both boys and girls and STILL the media won't change. I am a very proud person and I hid this obsession from everybody and that's not the right thing to do, I am now just getting help. So if anyone out there is reading this and has a eating disorder, depression about their appearance or an obsession please tell someone. Because I promise you, keeping it to yourself does nothing but damage.

Hi, I am worried about my now 11 year old sister, for 9 years now she has had really bad constipation if you call it. In most cases she can hold it for up to 4-5 month's at a time. This cause's leaks now and then and some times wind. The doctor's have said it is "Physiological" however I think different and I am extremely worried. There has been times when it would end with her in hospital having it drained out of her, yet that can not be always the only option as she is growing older now. She is due to start secondary school very soon and it worries me about other children not understanding. Also leaving her with a few bad odours and constant toilet trips. We have been given many forms of medication to try and budge it but not even 8 cups of Movicol a day could help. Her stomach swells up and often causes pain. Due to the feeling of being bloated it stop's my sister from eating and she was diagnosed with infantile anorexia. We try and give her the meals she need's and fibre but this has gone to far. The Doctor's say its all her in head but I choose to think differently as I know what it is doing to her inside's and also is increases the chance of bowel cancer. I plead with you to try and help, as I don't want the fear of loosing my baby sister for the rest of my life. Many thank's!

Hi there I know what your going through, my 13 year old daughter is in hospital right now having an eanema, she hasn't been to number 2 for 12 days and now can't wee either I assume the poo is so big inside her it's squashing her bladder, she takes movicol everyday which works for about a month then she gets compacted ad has to go to hospital, she was referred to a specialist who keeps an eye on her, as for secondary school I wrote to them and they give her a toilet pass so she doesn't even have to ask to go she can just leave without question, she does have quite a lot of time off as I absolutely won't send her if she is stuffed full of laxatives, she has lost a stone quite quickly due to this she also gets a white tongue and her breath smells quite bad the docs said that's because it is basically poising her when its still inside her, I'm afraid I can't give any advise we just plod on and know that we have to go to the hospital every now and then and get her sorted, she's like a different child when she's been. Drs that says its psychological are absolute morons. Just keep pushing to see specialist Good luck xxxx Erin

hi, i suffer from anorexia and have done for the past 2 and half years... i was overweight when i first started restricting my food intake but i did not feel i was FAT although statistically i was quite overweight!!! In these 2 and half years i have had almost weekly visits to my GP to be weighed, as a university student the past 2 years i have not lived at home but in halls of residents and have been refered to CMHT (community mental health team) my 1st referral was a year ago but they discharged me as my BMI was not "low" enough at 17.8 - a BMI of 18.5 is underweight but for the team to help me get treatment they basically said i would need a BMI lower than 17.5! I worked everyday last summer to avoid being home where i was watched by family and occassioanlly force fed! when i returned to university my BMI had dropped i lost 8kg over the summer holidays and was re-referred to the CMHT 1st week back! since then i ahve lost over a stone and a half, now with a BMI of 15.4 they have started to try and sort out treatment. with 2 and half years of restricting/starving etc it is going to be extremely hard to recover!!! altogether i have lost 7 and a bit stone!!! more than i weight now (i hve lost OVER half my body weight) and i am still waiting for treatment. It is an illness/disease that literally consumes and takes over your life, i do not eat, i have been put on high calorie drinks to make sure i have some calories each day... even then i struggle to consume them! Do NOT let yourself or a loved one get to the stage where getting back to a normal, healthy weight seems almost impossible! xxx
