When my child was around 7 he started biting his nails and gradually his nails began to turn a dark-bluish purple colour. He stopped biting at aged 12 and he is now 17 and they are still discoloured. Dermatologists have ruled out fungal infection and oxygen starvation. Please advise.

Hi Aiden. I'm sure that your problems are small and can be easily sorted out. Don't worry but if you have an infection you will need antibiotics. Be brave and go to a doctor to get it checked out. Let us know how you get on but don't ignore this OK.

My daughter is 12 and for the past six weeks has had reoccurring urine infections. She has been treated with a range of different antibiotics, including one week intravenously but still the infection persists. She has now been prescribed Cefalexin 500mg. Her paediatrician sent her for a scan but nothing abnormal showed. She has now requested a KUB scan. I worried that this continuous infection may cause some damage to my daughter’s kidneys. She has now developed a yellow discharge and has some itching, which I assume will probably be thrush. Do you think I should ask for a referral to see an urologist?

Just a thought: Has she been tested for sugar in the urine and blood? I was 11 when I had similar symptoms and it turned out to be diabetes (that was 45 years ago!)Suggest it to your GP - if not the case then I would, personally, see an urologist. Hope all goes well.

Sores on skin ? My 8 year old brother has been suffering very bad eczema since he has been born. At the moment he has very flakey skin with some areas very red and sore. It seems as though that some of the areas are so infected there are patches of pus some areas are cracked and have bled. He has had these problems before and his skin tends to flair up very easily. He has been to the doctors many times and have been given creams such as hydrocortisone to fungal creams and nothing has worked. He suffers with hayfever and has asthma . Me and my family are desperate for some advice as we seem to be creaming him every hour on the hour when hes at home from school and yet nothing seems to be working.

hi my son has exma aswell you`ll need to get some antibiotic to clear infection first then start creaming body all the time and i get some fluocinolone for bad bits than epaderm for puting on all the time you can all so put it in bath and for the asthma ask your docter for singulair paediatric chewable tablets works brillent for my son

Dont be afraid to keep asking the doctor to try him on different creams/ lotions, they suit people differently. I am now 39 and have used lots of different creams and bath oils in my time, I now use Aveeno lotion and bath/shower oil both with colodial oatmeal, so you could give it a try, get it prescribed by your doctor or you can buy it at Boots etc., . I also only recently found out that my itchy scalp was the cause of my face and neck flaring up, so the doctor gave me a steriod for my scalp and its woked miracles. So keep trying until you find something that controls it.

Hi, my son is 3 and has had 3 ear infections, which is was prescribed antibiotics for. The doctors said one of his ears has a lot of wax build up and is quite scared. I asked to be referred to a ear nose throat specialist in which they done a pressure test on his ears, they stated there was nothing wrong. His last infection was 2 months ago but complains of ear pain constantly although there is no infection, he has complained for around a year and a half now but can't seem to get to the bottom of it, he constantly rubs it and crys that both his ears hurt. What could be the problem? My doctor just gives him anti biotics but I don't see why he has constant ear pain. Thanks

I'd find a new dr. Can you go to a ear, nose and throat specialist? My guess is the scarring is causing more issues.

Sounds like you have a throat infection and what you are spiiting out is pus.

My daughter is 7 and she has regular pain when weeing, she also has a vaginal disgard which is very smelly. I have been to the GP several times and they have taken swabs and always come back clear? It is devastating to hear her cry in pain, I guess it would be cystitis. She has also had this problem since she was 3. The GP say's this is normal amd there is nothing wrong with her, but as you can see there are a few comments on here that all sound simular so hopefully it will end soon? I am at a loss also?

My little girl whos 3, started with a spot looking thing on her tummy, I watched it for a few weeks and it then went to 3 spot looking things, I went to the doctors and they gave me some fungal cream but this didn't work and now after another month they seem to have got slightly bigger and spread more. My 2 year old son also has something that looks very similar on the back of his leg that I just noticed and I hope it's not because it is contagious. I have booked another appointment at the doctors. What do you think it could be?

My daughter was initially treated for a number of different illnesses, the doctors didn't know what was wrong but they knew it was really serious. She became paralysed from her neck down in a matter of days and remained like that for 8 months, she was put in an induced coma for 4 months and put on a ventilator as she could no longer breathe for herself, she was in hospital for a whole year, infection after infection, she was seriously ill.....but once she was given the right treatment once they knew it was Lyme Disease she began to improve and she learned how to walk again. It has been a long hard road to recovery but she's doing really well now.It was a really terrifying experience for all of us especially my daughter,we will never ever forget it.

MIDDLE EAR INFECTION There is a probiotic that I came across for ear, nose and throat. I read that studies of children with recurrent ear infections indicated that children taking BLIS K12 had reduced numbers of ear infection recurrences. Some published studies have shown that it is possible for BLIS K12™ to transfer from the oral cavity to the nasopharynx, which is the bacterial reservoir for ear infections. There are a few references but maybe you could check out http://blis.co.nz or http://blisk12blism18.sg.

Hi i have ben a sufferer for years and was told by a specialist that it was lack of B vitamins caused by stress and was prescribed 50mg of pyrodoxine and 100mg of thiamine twice daily which realy does work, infact on days when i am busy and forget to take them i develope an ulcer almost right away. These vitamins realy work for me. As for which foods i should avoid, i,ve never realy worked that out...hope this is helpfull as i know the horrible pain of these things. Another thing that i have found with ulcers that may be of intrest to other sufferers is that they seem to get realy almost unbearable just before they go away

After 12 months of no diagnosis re cardiovascular symptoms and pericardial effusion, I webt abroad for a medical consultation. Within 2 weeks I had a positive test result for Lyme disease. In the meantime I had developed a variety of strange symptptoms, all consistent with Lyme. I was referred to Infectious Diseases and after 6 months (!) after the first appointment, I received IV antibiotics for 4 weeks. Soon after treatment I started to go downhill rapidly. ID claims that I am cured and must have something else or just chronic Lyme. In my desparation I went abroad and consulted a Lyme specialist. A blood test revealed active infection and a co-infection. I am now being treated and have to fund this treatment myself. I feel totally let down by the NHS.

Lymes should be treated until the symptoms have gone away for at least a month(I would do longer). Never accept that the symptoms take a while to go away, IT'S WRONG! I went through this too, 14 months of antibiotics after a year and a half of misdiagnosis. My treatment ended three years ago. I can function now. GET TREATED EARLY AND DON'T LET THEM STOP THE TREATMENT UNTIL THE SYMPTOMS ARE GONE! What is Chronic Lyme, they are spirochetes and they multiply! I hope the treatment has/is working for you.

My daughter had cradle cap from a young age she is twelve now. As a small child she was treated with various creams and shampoos to stop the scaling and anti fungal shampoo to stop the scale coming back. She started losing her hair when she was 5 coincidently when she started school. However she has only lost it in 3 patches on her head. We have tried betnovate shampoo and cream and our last visit to the hospital she was given a topical cream to apply to her head. The rest of the hair on her head is now growing but these 3 patches remain the same. She has never been tested for any other problems associated as previously stated and no one seems to listen to the fact that my mum her maternal grandmother suffers from psarrasis. But I am unsure if they are linked. She is due back at the hospital in May 2011 and advice?

My 9 year old son has a foreskin that will not retract. I took him to the GP when he was 4 years old and told to leave it as it would change once he reaches puberty. A couple of days ago it got infected (first time ever) I took him straight to the same GP who impatiently told him to stand up and just get his zip down! He then said. "Yes it's infected- antibiotics and circumcision". I told him my husband had had his foreskin streched as child and he rudely dismissed this and said he would refer him for a circumcision. Then asked him if he could swallow capsules as he made out the prescription for antibiotics. My son was distraught once we left the surgery. I think removing his foreskin is a bit drastic after only one infection and want to leave him to see if things change during puberty. Should I get him to try stretching it in the bath (once his infection has cleared up) or leave it until he reaches puberty.

Hi Jackie. Don't worry, there are many boys with the same issues. Circumcision would be drastic action especially if the antibiotics have cleared up the infection. Encourage your son to take regular baths or showers and keep his bits clean. If he can't pull back the foreskin at all then just wash the outside skin in the same way as he washes his legs!! This should be enough action until he reaches puberty and his penis starts to grow and develop. He can then experiment with the stretching exercises. Read some of the other comments here. Take care and get back to us if you need to.

i saw you mentioned about it stinging when you have a wee, it may be a urine infection.

Following on from my previous comment on 1/1/13. We ended up phoning NHS direct at 1am on 2/1/13 as my son's issue with his left leg worsed. He could not move, sit, stand or walk and was in a lot of pain. They advised us to go to out of hours GP. To cut long story short they were worried that he may have an infection in hip joint which would mean emergency surgery. Had Xrays and blood tests which were all clear. Had ultrasound which showed fluid on his hip. Alarm bells! Then had MRI scan under general anasthetic to see where fluid coming from and rule out infection. Lots of investigation from bone specialists etc, the outcome was this. He had 'benign reactive arthritis' which was brought on by his flu virus. Google it. It's quite common. A temporary thing that rights itself after a period of time. All to do with immune system. My son has fully recovered and is walking fine. Going for check up in few weeks. Hope this helps. Kelly.

Period..?? If You Go To Toilet Alot.. Or Urinbe Infection
