    Otitis media

Otitis media is an ear infection which causes fluid to build up in the middle ear, behind the eardrum, and it's sometimes referred to as 'glue ear' because of the sticky mucus it generates. Not surprisingly it often causes earaches, but also headaches,… Read more →

Have you had his hearing checked recently? Could possibly be something like glue ear, which effects low frequency sounds. My daughter has a permanent high frequency hearing loss & glue ear which was picked up at birth, and we have seen similar speech problems. Worth an appointment with your GP, who would make a hospital referral to have it properly checked he/she felt it necessary.

my son is 15months old and in the last 5 months has perferated his eardrum 7 times due to infections in the middle. He is due to have grommets in 2 months time. He recently had a hearing test and his hearing is really poor. After he has had the grommets inserted will his hearing improve or will he need further treatment for it?

hi, my 3 year old son's penis swells when he goes to the toilet i took him to our GP as i was concerned. it does'nt just swell a little bit the whole thing swells. he has been refered to a urinary consultant at alder hey.

Dear Ella, I really feel bad for you and can understand a little of what you might be going through. I was born with very thin hair and a couple of large patches. My hair has never grown and is unlikely to, as I was born like this - I am 47 now. I don't know where your doctor has the idea that you will grow out of it. so little is known about alopecia, your hair may grow back ,it might get worse, it might get better and never fall out again. it could also be hormonal. However, the reason i am writing is that I can absolutely relate to how you're feeling as a teenager. as a girl it is so important to feel good about your hair, and you just dont when it's like ours. I can remember all the jibes at school - I HATED going to school, and every day I would get called baldy or skinhead. There is one positive here - you had hair, and it's possible it will come back. in the meantime, you could try nanogen fibres (look on ebay) to add a bit of thickness, or some of the concealer pencils they do. try to remember, one day you will feel ok about this - it is only hair and although you feel your world is a painful one to live in, it could be a whole lot worse, like your sight, hearing or a limb. My 10 year old son is also suffering hair loss now, i don't know whether it will grow back or not, i am trying to support him, and i know from experience how cruel other kids can be. Hang on in there petal, what doesn't kill you makes you a whole lot stronger. Think of a few witty retorts - "I have a medical condition - what's your excuse?" etc, and try to see the names callers as the ones with the problem. I pretended I was deaf when I was a kid - you'd be surprised how quickly they get fed up when they don't get a response. Good luck hunny.xx

i have had grommets twice and im 13 now my hearing is still not good and i dont know if im allowed to have grommets again? what will they do if i cant? thanks to anyone who can answer xxx

my son is due to have grommets next week and he is 6 now, we have been going for hearing tests for over a year now and there have been no improvement with his hearing. They are also taking his tonsils out and possibly his adenoids. This is a scary experience for him and us but we know it's for the best.

I have taken her to the G.P several times and have been instructed to use ear wax remover but I am worried if this continues it will damage her hearing as she gets older what can I do next to help her.

I think she may have glu ear. This is common in children and they should grow out of it. Go to the doctors and they well double check and give you some medicine. It shouldn't effect her hearing when she is older.

Two is quite young to expect alot of talking. most kids do not say much at that age. You should keep checking though because when my son had them at 3 he was already behind in developing even though he pronounced his words fine. When he started school he had his hearing tested again and now wears hearing aids.

Hi folks..... after a reconsideration of our claim was rejected I have now launched an appeal. Am due to have a hearing shortly and to be honest, i am really frightened.....I am getting help from the CAB with all the info I need for the day and the will be there with me. At this stage, it is most likely that the hearing will not be until after Christmas. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome x

Hi Rosalie. I am an adult with alopecia areata and have had the condition since I was 4.Fortunately my hair loss was relatively brief as a child (but painful for my mom) however I am now suffering 80% loss. I want to thank you posting the information regarding extensions. It's very helpful.

my daughter is 6 and was diagnosed with 2 glue ears after her drum perforated. or gunge popped out in simple terms. i noticed she had trouble hearing me and had a appt with ent people set up just prior to the gunge incident. she may grow out of this but she has to pop her ears a lot like you would do on a plane and has to be careful when its cold as when she catches a cold her hearing is poor. all we can do is get her tested at ent clinic every 6 months and tell all her teachers to speak closely or facing her to guarantee she has actually heard them. family are well aware.

My Grandaughter has a rash that covers her whole body. The Doctors are at a loss to what it is. There are 2 parts to this rash it started with what was first thought to be ring worm, she had a very large raised rash that was the size od a small teacup, this then became infected and the other rash has now covered her completly. It does itch she is 7 and very upset, her eyes are like little slits on her face. There is a 20 week wait to see a consultant, she was so bad yesterday took her to A&E they were also at a loss to what it was and took a blood test to rule out other symptoms. Please can you help her.

My 2yr old was diagnosed with mild active colitis, and is on sulphasalizine and a dairy free diet. However, she is still passing blood through her stools and complains of stomach pains. After hearing about Coeliac, I am wondering if this is what she has.
