My daughter is 2 nearly 3 in March she has been struggling with her bowels since 3months of age she will raise her knees up to her chest and scream in pain, stomach cramps, bloating, gas, bad mood, irratible, loss of appetite, so went to doctors got laxatives movicol which she ended up in A&E allergic reaction, seen paediatricians got more laxatives tried lactolouse which didn't do anything, been seen by gut specialist and got put back on movicol she took another allergic reaction so went onto lactolouse again 10mls twice a day which cleared her for 2 days then stopped working no matter how much we gave her it even got up to 10 mls 3 times a day still nothing we have tried in over 2 years movicol, lactolouse, ducolax, senna and 2 other ones can't remember there names nothing helps just makes her worse tried diary free diet, lacto free diet, gluten free diet never helped tried syrup of figs, prunes, prune juice, pure juices, more fruit, more water, more veg, flax seed, probiotics still nothing helps now the specialist says give her lactolouse 10mls 3 times a day and ducolax 10 mls 3 times a day but I thought this is a it much and then got told by another professional do t give her that much so I thought it might be colic as she suffered with it very badly as a baby so gave her colief drops and within 24hours her stools went from hard to soft, more happier, better appetite , sleeps, not much gas cramps but she still has bloating and some pain when pushing she's passing stools the size of grapes about 2 to 3 times a day her bottom is red raw and very painful no matter how much cream we put on her we even gave lacto free diet along with drops and are still doing that now but it seems like the pain is getting abit more bad like it used to be can someone please help me I do t know what else to do she also has autism

You can go to your doctors and tell them the symtoms and they will prescribe the medicine. Or you can go to any chemist and ask for the medicine for worms. its about £10 and has about 5 doses in the bottle as its advisable to treat the whole family

same here im 13 yrs old and most of my friends are like 8stone 7 and im 10 stone. i sometimes feel really embarrased because i just dont feel the same like them i sometimes dont want to eat my food so i can lose some weight but it never works i just really want to lose it. :(

I have the same issue but i am 14 and just over 12 stone - my advice is not to take any weight loss pills, teas, pathces or other sorts because they can have bad effects on the body but instead visit a doctor about it because they can put you on a course that helps you loose weight (: i will be seeing my doctor soon so dont worry, you are not alone x

Circumcision is a risky proceedure and results in the loss of a surprisingly large area of important skin. Many doctors are ignorant when it comes to the long and short-term effects of foreskin amputation. IntactAmerica.org is a good source of information.

Hi Rosalie. I am an adult with alopecia areata and have had the condition since I was 4.Fortunately my hair loss was relatively brief as a child (but painful for my mom) however I am now suffering 80% loss. I want to thank you posting the information regarding extensions. It's very helpful.

My son is 3 months away from 9 years old and he has had a prolem with constipation and soiling since he was 3 years old. We have also been given the advice of Movicol and high fibre diet. Sometimes the Movicol works for short periods but if I up the dose he has stomach cramps and nausea and very loose stools. He has a loss of appetite and I struggle to get him to eat at all. I just dont know how to get more fibre into him if he wont eat. I also think he is very underweight because of this. He soils several times a day and is very embarrased. I;m at my wits end and could cry for him. I worry about him constantly. I just dont know what to do anymore. The doctor just gives ther same advice of high fibre foods, water and movicol. I really need help

My son started this at 3 too although he eats he's still looking verythin and underweight you have had to deal with this a lot longer than me has the gp never gave you proper answers? I don't find the movicol or senna do me think except make more mess for me to clean

I wonder can you please offer some advice.my 4 year old son has suffered with diarrhea since he was an infant.as i am a coeliac he has been tested for this via endoscopy and it was negative. The hospital also performed allergy tests and they all came back normal.he has also been tested for giardia which was also negative.i was then prescribed movical as the conclusion was that he was backed up and thus the diarrhea was as a result of this.this did not seem to make a difference either.he complains of stomach ache most mornings and at times loss of appetite, and his bowel motions are all over the place for want of a better expression. i have also tried various exclusion diets but none seem to make a huge difference as i don't know where to pin point.he also suffers with excema and nasal congestion and is on trial asthma medication.i am worried as he is now four and this problem is ongoing.i had hoped he would be sorted before school next year to avoid any embarrassment.I would really appreciate any advice as i am at my wits end with worry.thank you in advance.

My daughter aged 6 came in to contact with a relative on 14.04.14 who, unknown to us had got shingles. From24.04 she developed a heavy cold, was very irritable, sharp, complained of headaches and was tired. On Friday 02.05. in the morning she woke with at least 15 - 20 spots on her body. The Doctor requested to see her immediately before the surgery got busy and confirmed it was chicken pox. I have used calamine cream and lotion with a liquid antihistamine every 4 hours which, the later has proved very successful.

Hi, my daughter is almost 12 years old and weighs almost 5 stone - she is very skinny and slow growing... perfectly healthy, full of energy, no problems at all but has the appetite of a sparrow... I dont know whether to take her to doctors because I feel like I'll be laughed out of the surgery.. there is so much emphasis on overweight children these days, it seems odd to be at the other end... also i worry about the obvious and that this will develop into an eating disorder - any ideas???

really sorry if i sound rude i have an eating disorder but, you cant just get an eating disorder because your skinny, you develop them due to stress, depression, abuse or other mental health problems, its away of dealing with your emotions and its away of controlling something in your life you feel you cant control. just be happy your daughter is healthy and if she seem to come obsessive then maybe worry.

5 stone for a 12 year old who is only small is about the right amount, as im 5ft2in - 18 and should weigh about 8stone. But regardless of the weight doesnt always mean she doesnt have an eating disorder. I experienced this when i was younger, the obvious signs is loosing interest in food, start thinking she is fat, feeling sick at the smell, playing with food, breaking food up into small pieces or squashing it together. If any of these happens take her to see the GP.

My daughter is 7 and she has regular pain when weeing, she also has a vaginal disgard which is very smelly. I have been to the GP several times and they have taken swabs and always come back clear? It is devastating to hear her cry in pain, I guess it would be cystitis. She has also had this problem since she was 3. The GP say's this is normal amd there is nothing wrong with her, but as you can see there are a few comments on here that all sound simular so hopefully it will end soon? I am at a loss also?

Her main symptoms were sickness nearly everyday, massive weight loss and a really bloated stomach. (the usual symptoms are toilet problems) She was diagnosed after being refered to the hospital by the GP which took a very long time. If I look back now I wish we had been a bit more pushy with the GP. We were dismissed a lot too. She got really poorly before anyone listened!

Hi my son will be 4 in October. he has sever constipation all his life, he has been on every medication, movicol, and few others. anyway we saw peads 2 years ago who put him on pic solphate 20mil a day. with this even though we have has problems he has been pooing and got his appetite back again, not great but better the what it was. anyway i jan we was told by peads to decrease it by one mil a month. he is now on 6mil a day. anyway this has effected him, as he is going back to same place again, he is strugglin gto poo, he is on the toilet for an hour, used to be on toiler for about 20 minutes when we started decreasing. he says it wont come out. i am so stressed that we will go back to stage one again of no poo's and severe constipation, i was told that his body will learn to poo and get rid of backlog. was going well up until we started lowering the dose and now its been really bad. please help!!!!

Hi. Very interesting site . I am an adult (female) and suffered dreadfully from soiling from about 5 to 14. I was literally too scared of pain to "let it out" and suffered huge shame and humiliation because of soiling. I actually went whole summer holidays without doing a poo... when I was about 12. I kid you not! My stomach was distended - had no appetite or energy and could not run as felt huge bowel pain. All was I now realise a psychological reaction to emotional pain and upset from my home life. However - now totally normal and have been for years. Was a control thing - my bowels were the only thing I HAD control over when I was a little girl! There IS hope!!!!

Hi wonder if anyone can offer me any sort of advice as I am at my wits end. My son is 11 months old and suffered with on/off constipation since birth. He is under a specialist at the hospital who to be honest isn't much help. My son squeals the house down about 10 minutes before any bowel is even ready to come. He is absolutely inconsolable and squeals throughout the movement being passed then for 10 minutes after.. It's horrific and upsetting to see my baby boy in so much pain. Doctors have had him on laxative solution since 3 months old. He has been on various diets and has a fab appetite plenty fruit and vegetables ect... My concerns are even when my son is not constipated he is like this.I feel Doctors are fobbing me off I feel something's not right.. I'm at my wits end.. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, My daughter just turned one and we have exactly th same problem only she takes movicol everyday and i have to give her suppositories every 2nd day. She had to have her anus dilated to make it bigger under anestetic and she screams for up to 45 mins before managing a tiny poop. The doctors have also say her anus is too close to her vagina which isnt helping. This has been happening since she was 8 weeks old. I would ask for a referal to a surgical paediatrician if your not happy with the situation.
