A stye is a small, lumpy infection at the point where the eyelash grows out of the eyelid. Read more →

My daughter has a lump on her eyelip which I suspect to be a stye but there is no pusy lump. She now has another lump developing on her other eyelid. She says they irritate but not really hurt, they are more noricable in the morning when she wakes. Should I treat it as a stye or could it be something else?

If I were you I would take her to the doctor because the exact same thing happened to me but it didn't hurt . When I went to the doctor he told me it was a chalazion , which I had to get surgery .

I would treat it as one first and if that doesn't work take her to the doctor

My 7 year old daughter has a small lump on her jaw line which is quite tender and also her tonsils are up, she is also cutting new teeth. Our GP has said it is a swollen gland due to her teeth but I am still worried about this lump it is only on the right hand side nothing on the left could you please give me your opinion and how long should I wait for it to go away before maybe returning to GP for another look. Thank you very much Paula

Hi, My daughter had a large (size of a golf ball) lump appear on her forehead for no apparent reason. She was dismissed from hospital to rturn and be put on intravenous antibiotics for peri- orbital cellulitus. The cellulitus cleared after about a week, however the lump remained for a bout a year, with no cause being given. It has now disappeared, but she has developed 36 warts on her head, they are now spreadin down her face onto her eys. The doctors aren't interested at all and say that it is a childhood virus, but it is really starting to upset her. She is 9 and image is becoming important to her. Is there anything we can buy or do, to stop further ones developing and reduce the amount she has?

Just go to a dermatologist. It really helps. Hope this helps.

My son is nearly 4 and has a very tight foreskin . His father had a strangulated fore skin as a child and had a circumcision. My son has a small white lump under the foreskin which has been discribed as a collection of dirt and secretions. We cannot remove this as his foreskin opening is minuscule. The surgeon we saw advised forcibly pulling back the foreskin. But I am sure this is terrible advice as this would cause pain to my son, and possible damage. I am concerned that over time this lump is only getting bigger and is likely to get infected. The end of his penis is often red as it is. I do not want him to have any surgery that is not necessary, but I also don't want to wait until he can't wee, has had numerous infection and is in pain either.

my son had it all around the head of his penis.. it started out small i watched it grow to all the way around his head under his foreskin.. we took him to a uroligist at a childrens hospital. they gave us a steroid cream to put in the foreskin to thin the skin temporarily so we could pull the skin back eaisier.. you cant just slam it back. you stretch it each day so to speak .. my sons was tight .. we applied to cream and each day pulled it back yes it stretched it yes it bled a tiny bit each day it almost appeared to rip it a bit.. my boy didnt cry... he flintched .. but after about 4 days.. the skin came back and the build up (smegma) got cleaned off.. yes you should do it.. and do it while he is young.. so he doesnt remember it..

Hi Tim. Very difficult to assess your situation without a visual examination. Parts of a penis head can look a bit ugly with the foreskin pulled back. I suggest that you go to your doctor and get checked out. It will take 5 minutes...just be sensible and go for it.

My son has had these for 10 months now and they are almost gone (one left). the first two appearerd on the back of his legs behind his knee. We saw the Dr with the usual response. after a few months he had them on both legs and in excess of 60. i tried squeezing but they werent like puss his were more like a lump inside maybe the puss solidified? but i found that if i got the top off i could usually remove the lump with tweezers or by rubbing it firmly with a wet cotton ball. i would then clean the area (bleeds quite a bit once the lump is out) and pop a plaster over it till the next day. this method has worked. he did have one appear on his chest and elbow i got them immediately and there was no spread on those areas, i only wish i had removed the two he got 10 month ago and avoided the rest of them!! this is an awful virus and as my son has exma (cant remember how to spell it) it has really aggrivated it and he is very consious of it even though he is only 6!

Hi guys thanks for your comments an advise. I used the manuka honey during the night an in the day I was dabbing quite a strong concentration of tea tree oil. Within three days the spots under his chin became aggravated an the puss like seed appeared on all of them. I then started squeezing them an as some described 'cream cheese' came out. There was a lot of bleeding after but it did last two minutes. I took extra care cleaning the squeezed spots after with Dermol a antiseptic cream I have for his excema. They have all disappeared with the big ones leaving a small scar...but I'd rather a scar them then awful spots! No new ones have appeared yet but I know that they do spread easy! I only wish I started this process along time ago! I would also say if you don't squeeze the 'cream cheese' out they do not go. I defiantly think it was the tea tree oil. My son does have excema as well but it didnt do any harm. Like other I don't do blogs but this definatly helped. Good luck all x

Hi Rhys. Don't panic but any lumps on your nuts must be checked out by a Doctor. No time to be shy. Go after school tomorrow - you got me?

My daughter has a lump on her upper eyelid that looks like a stye. This is the second one in as many months, I've taken her to the doctors and he just said it will go with time. Just looks so awfull, looks like she's got a black eye.

My 6 yr old cant retract his foreskin. Last year I took him to the drs because he had a lump under the skin of his penis. The dr said it was a build up of smegma and to try to massage the lump out. I didn't feel comfortable doing this so left it alone. On our follow up appointment the dr tried to retract my sons foreskin and deemed it too tight and refered us to a consultant. The consultant advised me that the foreskin was too tight and in his opinion it would not stretch as he got older so booked him in for a circumcision the following week! The appointment came through but after researching it lots on the internet I cancelled the surgery and have left it alone. My son isn't very curious about his penis (yet!) and will sometimes try to pull it back, mainly at bath time. I tell him it's ok and to only do it as far as is comfortable. Am I doing the right thing? He's only 6! Surely he has time to stretch? He doesn't have pain when he urinates and has never had any infections. The foreskin does balloon as he starts to urinate and it does tend to shoot off in a random direction until the stream is steady and fast. I'm happy to let it work itself out but just checking I'm doing the right thing.

Hi Sarah. You are indeed doing everything right and your son has had a very lucky escape from circumcision. Ballooning during urinating is normal and is an indication that his foreskin has started to detach from the penis head. He will eventually work out the best way to control his urine flows! In light of this he can continue trying to pull his foreskin back during bath times and one day it will start to shift. This will be a new interesting experience for him that is quite normal. It is designed to be pulled back. He can then wash off any gunge (smegma) that may be on the head of the penis. Keep up the good care of your son and if you need us...you know where we are. Hope this has helped.

I'm 13 and I have a strawberry lump type on my upper lip and I've learnt to deal with it but I was just wondering if it will ever go away , it was dark purple when I was young but now it's like a light pink colour
