    Fever

Body temperature is usually measured with a thermometer under the tongue, or a digital thermometer under the armpit and anything over 38 degrees C or 100.4F is classed as a fever. Read more →

its normal, just your body reacting to temperature.

I get this too, it's natural and completely normal, it usually has something to do with temperature change and/or blood flow, no need to worry at all :)

My 8 week old baby has 4 mouth ulcers on her hard palette. I have been to my GP but they don't know the cause. She had a temperature at first but it has stayed down now. There are no other symptoms. Is this normal? What could the cause be? Because she is so young we are using calpol and a throat spray prescribed by doc. Will they take long to heal?

My 27 month old has a red blister looking rash on his face. He also appears to have sores inside his mouth, these are preventing him from eating (even though he is hungry). He has a temperature of 38 and a very faint rash on his hands and feet. Is this hand foot and mouth. Do I need to taking him to the doctor if it is? Any advise would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

My child had a tick in his head last May. Although I removed the tick, he still has a raised scar which he still scratches to bleeding. Even though the original bite was 11 months ago, the area still iritates him. Should I insist on getting his blood tested for Lyme disease?

It's possible that the tick's mouth parts are still in your child head, which may have become infected. If you removed the tick early enough it is unlikely that your child will have contracted Lyme's Disease, as the infection stops being administered once the tick is removed (with or without it's teeth). However, it would be worth seeing you GP.

An irritated area following a tick bite is usually an indication that the tick's mouth parts have been left behind in the skin. Unlike a splinter, they are barbed and often don't push out of the skin. This causes periodic irritation. If it is really bothering your child, your GP can remove the skin containing the mouth parts by numbing the area with local anaesthetic first. BADA-UK http://www.bada-uk.org/ has lots of useful information about tick bites and preventing them. Remaining mouth parts don't increase the risk of Lyme disease but compressing the tick's body or agitating the tick, which can regurgitate infective fluids, can. Unless your child is showing signs of ill health, it is unnecessary to test for Lyme disease. Tests also have limitations and can produce both false-positive and false-negative results so should only be used in conjunction with an assessment of the patient's symptoms and history of tick exposure.

my son has raised lymph glands on his neck behind his right ear which run down his neck, he also has red bumps on his head about the size of a 10 pence piece, he has been to the barbers 2 days previously and i am unsure if the lumps are connected to the lymph gland

my 6 year old daughter seems to be getting a few spots on her face. Raised red lumps rather than puss filled spots. Just one or two here and there. On her cheek below the eye and at the side of her mouth or on the nose. They come and go within a day or two. They dont seem to bother her at all. But they keep coming. Is it acne? is it eczema? is it a bite? or an allergic reaction due to food intolerane? Can anyone help me?

How old is she? If she is under six months and not showing any signs of distress or any other symptoms such as a fever or fussiness for no reason then it's probably baby acne but take her to a gp or walk in centre to rule out something more serious

My son is 4 yrs old and has been trying to wee a lot. dip tests are negative, his temperature is fine. he was on anti b's for 3 days but they took him off as he did not show any pain. he has a high pain threshold and is terrified of doctors but I noticed a sore on the tip of his penis right by the hole. What could it be and what can I do?? Its driving us both nuts!! Will be going back to gp and pushing it but would appreciate some advice. Have read advice given. He is constantly playing with his penis....I assumed it was a man thing and just ignored it. Discouraging it just drew attention to it. His foreskin is not tight. I do not wash it.

my son is nearly 7 months and seems to only tolerate powder foods that you mix with water. if i try to introduce yoghurt or mash or anything like that he becomes constipated, he is having two breastfeeds a day with 3 powdered foods. he also comes out in a rash on his face, sometimes its only a bit other times its all round his eyes and is red and blotchy but not raised, this is when he has fruit, and usually disappears after half an hour and doesnt seem to cause him discomfort. surely this is not normal?

Hi Jacob. There is a condition known as micro-penis in adults. Your GP may consider referring you to a specialist for tests if they feel you may have signs of this condition. In the meantime, don't worry. Hope this helps.

I was 11/12 when I got this disease I started getting headaches all the time and I had a high temperature so I went to the doc when I realised there was giant patch of red on my cheeks and it turned out I had slapped cheek x Liya

Hi Daniel. There is no average penis size for boys your age so chill out - you are OK. It could keep growing until you are 20 so plenty of time. The average size of an adult man is about 6 inches. Not as big as you may think. Tightly packed testicles is the bodies way of keeping them at the correct temperature for sperm production. Don't worry - you are fine. I hope this helps - take care.

Hey, i was just wondering if it is possible to be allergic to just oysters, because my brother gave me half an oyster (first ever one) and 6/12 hours later i was feeling dissey, faint, had a very high temperature and was sick for hours. I haven't had oysters since that day but i have had loads of Shell fish? I am too worried to try an oyster again just incase the same thing occurs. Any help? Thank you. x

Nits love hot humid temperature it speeds up the laying eggs time I wouldn't recommend a sauna unless you really love your visitors, I good shampoo or oil treatment like headrin would do the trick it's not a pesticide it's a form of oil that smothers the live and eggs and dehydrated them killing them, then treat again 7 days later to catch any lucky stragglers and for the record mayonnaise doesn't work been there got the post card!

My daughter aged 9 has a orange/pink waxy slightly raised birthmark on her head as in show. No hair grows through it but is covered by her hair and not noticable and has not changed in appearance. She had surgery at 18 months old to remove a large strawberry birthmark after lazer treatment was unsucesful and has hemi hypertrophy. Is this something I should get checked with the GP?

My son has a helmet at the moment and the improvement is amazing, we see Stephen Mottram at Technology in motion, you can make an appointment for a free assessment. Find the website ossur.co.uk and click on Plagiocephaly. Thats what we did when we were still waiting for a NHS referal 3 months after seeing our doctor. I raised concerns with my health visitor and was told not to worry, lots of babies get it. However having done more research in really severe cases it can start to affect facial development.

Hi Jacob. I agree that a 2.5cm penis is not big but all 11 year old boys are different. Unless this has been raised in a previous medical consultation then I doubt your GP will pass any comment on the size. They are most interested general health and well-being. Puberty is a time of huge growth changes especially in the testicles and penis. Usually the testicles grow first, making the penis seem even smaller but then it catches up. It could just be - don't worry and it will happen. Hope this helps.
