My daughter had chicken pox when she was 5 months old. She is now nearly 3 years and still has all of the red spots left on her skin. Why have these not faded? Is there anything I can apply to reduce the redness?

Using wet wipes helps after having a movement as the coolness of the wipe and the moisture also helps rather than the dryness if tissue can often cause irritant

I am suffering with anal fissures and sometimes use a dilute solution of sodium bicarbonate to clean with since it neutralizes the acid from the bowel movement. I follow this with a rinse of water to remove the solution.

I have eczema and i have discovered a miracle. I been cooking using vco in most of my meals and drinking coconut oil. My eczema reduces tremendously. Less redness and weeping . Try this out and hope this will help all of us in leading a normal and happy life.

My son's hair fell out in the space of 2 weeks back in Sept/oct time and there has been some hair growth since but nothing big. There are still some patches with less hair than the others but you can see the hair follicles. His eyebrows are thinner and he has lost a few eye lashes too. The Drs said it's not alopecia but I can't think what else it can be seeing as his bloods have come back clear and there was no redness on his head etc.

Try a Qtip with vaseline on it and run it under the skin on top of the glans to clean the underside and lubricate it so you can gradually stretch the skin without difficulty or pain after about three weeks to a month you should be able to retract the skin without difficulty or the embarrassment of going to have a dr tell you the basic same idea. You do still have to go to the Dr if there is persistant redness, irritation, swelling or discharge with any of these issues.

Hi Neil. Hydrocortizone is a steroid cream which helps relieve redness and itching. Betamethazone 0.05% would be a good choice for a tight foreskin. Remember that using the cream alone is not enough. You have to work at stretching your foreskin back. Best to do this in a warm bath. Be brave as it may hurt at first and it can take a few months. It will be worth it. Hope this helps

My daughter is 3 years old. She had been suffering go 2 months and has just had a second tear even though the stool is soft and has been taking marvicol. She is uncomfortable 2 hours before she needs to go and screams on the toilet before during and after. She wakes up during the night and cries for hours complaining her bum hurts. Around the anus about 1 cm around it looks red raw. She is so uncomfortable a lot of the time. What can I do? Doc has given daktakort for the redness but is doing nothing and she is on marvicol sachets. It's been 6 weeks. Please help

It is important that he is not forcing his foreskin back. The soreness could be an irritation caused by soap products used when bathing. Make sure he washes the area with warm water only. When the foreskin is pulled forward again properly, then he can use soap. He must dry himself properly. Change underwear every day and if possible wear a simple brief. After a week or so the redness should get less. If not then he may have an infection and a visit to the doctor should be considered. I hope things go OK.

Interesting! Not all foreskins retract automatically when you have an erection. Assuming you have not had sex then the redness could be caused by soapy products that you have used when washing - a simple little infection or irritation. You won't need an operation. What you say is sensible - have a warm bath and before you use any soaps pull your foreskin back when soft to wash the penis. Try it again when erect. Make sure u pull the skin fully forward again so the tip is not exposed. Then wash and dry off as normal. Hopefully things will improve very soon. If not, we'll have to consider some other remedies.

Hi, I'm 15 and I can pull my foreskin all the way back when flaccid. However, when I do this, there is a band of redness going along the tip of my foreskin all the way round. It's worse at the back of the foreskin where my frenulum is. There, it seems to be red with a hint of blue-ish, there is also white stuff there (which I think is snegma) which won't wash away when I'm in a bath. It seems to be stuck under half transparent skin? It's not sore, just sensitive. I'm quite scared as it doesn't look nice at all and hoping for some advice on what to do. Would skin lotion help? Thanks in advance.

Hi Dan. I know exactly what you mean but don't be scared. An uncovered penis can look quite scary when the foreskin is pulled back. It will also be sensitive. Just continue to pull it back when you take a bath and wash your penis head. Make sure any soap you use is washed off. Keep up the stretching so you can pull it back when erect also. I really hope this helps - you sound perfectly normal to me.

I am 13 and have quite a big nose, it used to be red when I was a baby but the redness has faded since then, all the doctors I've seen have said that it will get smaller when I get older but it hasn't, everyday I walk home from school and I have to hide my face so people don't see it, people make comments all the time, I sometimes don't like meeting new people because I'm scared they might judge me because my nose is a ball like shape, like a small bouncy ball, I really hate it and since I started secondary school its been more and more of a problem. Please help :(

First of all, I understand. I grew up with a large birthmark also. Second. Please don't be afraid to show your face. Hold your head high. They can't knock you down or belittle you unless you let them my dear. Find something that boosts your self esteem. That makes you feel good about yourself. Then surround yourself with those who love you and care for you and ignore the rest. I know this is difficult to do as kids at your age can be cruel. But these were all lessons I learned on my own. I was embarrassed and wouldn't look at people in the face I'd walk down the hallways staring at the floor. It was then that I realized I am worth being loved and had to take care of "me". Once I did those who were my true friends came to light.

Hi Nate. Redness can be caused by an irritation from shower gels, soaps, infections or simply the physical rubbing of the sensitive tip against your underwear. Always make sure you keep clean - pull the foreskin back, wash it properly without soap and pull forward again. Use clean underwear every day. Try wearing simple tight briefs for a week without any seams in the pouch so it doesn't rub. Also, you could apply some Aloe vera gel to the tip - available in most chemists. If all this fails and it still stings and looks red then you may need Antibiotics from the doctor! Hope this helps...take care
